As there is no level plug to check the amount of oil in the gearbox the only way is to drain the oil, then refill with the correct amount of oil (fiat seem to say 2 litres) but I think most people put 2.7 litres in. There are 3 places to fill the gearbox from, the Speedo transducer hole, the breather hole (which is hard to find) & the reversing

Having read conflicting information regarding the torque of the hub nut can someone confirm what is correct? Also, I believe it is suggested to fill with 2.7 litre instead of manufacturers suggested 2l.
For that model the oil used is as Dave has said above & the quantity as stated by Fiat is 2.0 litres but it is recommended that 2.7 litres is used. This "extra" is to minimise the risk of the fifth gear failure through running out of oil in its external gearbox casing from the main gearset & is also recommended by the Fiat dealers out here.
I have a question regarding the oil capacity of my 2006 Fiat Ducato 2.3jdt motorhome gearbox, I have just replaced the clutch, cam belt etc and I am confused with all the information going around regarding the amount required, from1.7 litres - 2.9 litres.
